Aerial Lifts Safety Program

$25.00

The Aerial Lift Safety Program establishes requirements for the safe selection, inspection, operation, positioning, and maintenance of aerial lifts and mobile elevating work platforms used to perform work at elevated locations. The program addresses common aerial lift hazards, including falls, tip-overs, electrocution, overhead power lines, crushing and entrapment, struck-by hazards, unstable ground conditions, falling objects, collisions, and equipment failure. Only trained, evaluated, and authorized employees may operate aerial lifts.

The program covers aerial lift inspections, worksite hazard assessments, equipment capacity and stability, platform and guardrail safety, fall protection, safe travel and positioning, electrical clearances, traffic and pedestrian control, weather conditions, emergency lowering, and rescue procedures. Employees must follow manufacturer operating instructions, remain within rated equipment limitations, use required personal protective equipment and fall protection, and immediately remove defective equipment from service. Requirements also address operator training and retraining, equipment maintenance and repairs, documentation, and safe operating practices. More specific requirements for individual equipment types may be addressed in the Company’s Boom Lift Safety and Scissor Lift Safety programs.

Description

The Aerial Lift Safety Program provides a structured framework for controlling hazards associated with aerial lifts and mobile elevating work platforms used to position employees at elevated work locations. It establishes responsibilities for management, supervisors, operators, and affected employees and addresses operator authorization, equipment selection, pre-use inspections, worksite assessments, safe positioning and operation, maintenance, and emergency preparedness.

The program addresses equipment capacity and stability, platforms and guardrails, fall protection, ground and surface conditions, safe travel and positioning, overhead power lines and electrical clearances, crushing and entrapment hazards, falling objects, traffic and pedestrians, wind and weather, emergency lowering, rescue procedures, equipment inspections, and operator training and evaluation. It also establishes procedures for removing defective equipment from service, responding to changing worksite conditions, and coordinating with more equipment-specific Boom Lift Safety and Scissor Lift Safety requirements when applicable.

Provided in editable Microsoft Word format, the program can be customized for your company’s aerial lifts, worksites, operating procedures, inspection requirements, fall-protection practices, and employee responsibilities. It can be incorporated into a comprehensive Safety Manual or used as a standalone Aerial Lift Safety Program.
